The Sellersburg Redevelopment Commission voted 3-0 on April 6 to fund installation of two lights at the town’s pickleball courts, approving up to $6,259.20 for Duke Energy to install two pole locations.
A representative of the Wheatley Group told the commission that Duke Energy’s estimate for installation totaled $6,259.20 and that the work would consist of adding two pole locations and lighting fixtures. "So Duke would be adding the lights, to there. There is a cost of $6,259.20 to install those," the Wheatley Group representative said.
Commissioner Todd Ants moved to fund the project and stated, "I will, make a motion to put in pickleball lights. I would say not to exceed $6,259.20." The motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote recorded as 3-0.
Staff clarified that the redevelopment commission would consider funding the installation as a capital expense from the town’s TIF (tax increment financing) funds; the parks or parts department would be responsible for any ongoing monthly electricity charges once the lights were installed. The Wheatley Group representative said the commission would not be responsible for ongoing maintenance bills.
The commission did not attach additional conditions to the authorization; staff will proceed with the installation process and return with any contract paperwork or invoicing as appropriate.
