Commissioners ask staff to check city IT's AI work for housing services; staff to report back

At its April 9 meeting, the Carlsbad Housing Commission discussed whether the city's IT department should brief the commission on artificial‑intelligence tools that could be used in housing services.

One commissioner proposed asking IT to attend a future commission meeting so members could ask questions and give recommendations. Housing and Supportive Services staff replied that the department does not currently use AI for RFP review or application screening and that the city's IT department is already "looking at AI in a general sense." Staff offered to inquire with IT and provide a summary update in a staff comment rather than pursue a separate formal agenda item. The commissioner accepted that approach and withdrew a formal request.

No formal motion or vote to require an IT presentation occurred; staff committed to follow up and report any housing‑related AI activities to the commission if available.
