The Keizer Parks & Recreation advisory committee agreed to delay final action on a student-produced volunteer recruitment video so the script can be finalized and reviewed before being sent to city council.
Members raised concerns that the script had been shared with an outside managing editor — identified in discussion as a professional from the Keizer Times — for a professional edit. Several members said professional input could improve quality; others said involving an outside party should not delay the committee’s timeline or override student contributions.
“Why are they involved in it if they’re not part of the committee?” one committee member (voice S2) asked, expressing concern about handing review to an outside editor. Another member (voice S5) responded that the managing editor’s review was intended to add professional eyes, not to take decision authority away from the committee.
Committee members discussed scheduling constraints tied to the school year and the city council packet timeline. The clerk (voice S1) noted the city council packet for the May 4 meeting would be published on April 29, which set a de facto deadline for committee approval if the committee wanted the council to act in early May.
After calendar checks and timeline negotiation, members agreed to hold a hybrid meeting (in‑person and Zoom) on Thursday, April 16 at 5:00 p.m. to finalize the script. Members set a deadline for Robin, the script lead, to submit edits by the end of business on the Monday prior to the meeting so the committee can circulate materials in advance.
The committee emphasized preserving student contributions while ensuring a short, 3–5 minute final video suitable for outreach. The April 16 session will be limited to script review and final committee sign‑off before packet preparation for city council.
