Several residents and community representatives spoke during the public-comment portion of the Edwardsburg Village Council's Jan. 19 meeting.
Robert Parrish of 26588 Hamilton Street told the council he is concerned that a recently repaired streetlight near his home is creating a disturbance; he also raised a separate concern about lights at the old church on East St. Scott Scheel, president of the Edwardsburg Food Pantry, asked the council to consider using the old library as a new pantry location because stairs at the pantry's current site make access difficult for many residents. Brett Thompson, owner of Dat Canna, asked the council to consider making updates to the village's marijuana ordinance.
Council minutes record that the review of the cannabis retail ordinance will be added to the agenda of the Planning Commission for further consideration; no formal action on ordinance text was taken at the meeting. These comments were made during the public-comment period and were recorded in the minutes for future follow-up.
