Georgetown council refers American Legion’s parking request to Street & Alley committee

Cory Meeks, representing the American Legion, told the Georgetown City Council the post supports the prior safety-driven decision to prohibit parking in the first block of E. West St but said the restriction has reduced business visibility. Meeks asked the council to allow parking after normal business hours — from 4:30 p.m. until close.

Council members discussed possible changes to traffic flow or parking layout to improve visibility, including making the first block of Walnut Street one-way or removing a parking spot. The council voted to send the matter to the Street & Alley committee for further study (motion Alder Brooks / Alder Gordon); the referral passed unanimously, 7–0.

What’s next: the Street & Alley committee will consider options and report back to the council; no ordinance or regulatory change was adopted at the March 16 meeting.
