Board approves temporary resolution allowing contested delegates and precinct chairs to serve as poll workers

The Elkhart County Election Board on March 27 approved a resolution allowing contested state delegates and precinct chairs to serve as poll workers for the remainder of the year.

The chair said the item was brought by both Democratic and Republican party chairs because both parties are struggling to recruit poll workers. The resolution was described as temporary, expiring at the end of the year, and the board noted that it must be approved unanimously.

Jenny called a roll for the vote; the roll-call responses recorded Patty Pickett, Tom Reusser and Michelle as voting in favor. The board approved the resolution by a unanimous 3–0 vote.

Board members and staff framed the move as a short-term response to staffing needs rather than a permanent policy change.
