Facilities report: repaving, asbestos work done; committee will solicit playground surfacing quotes

Facilities staff updated the committee on ongoing projects and recommended next steps for playground surfacing.

Mr. Hebert reported that repaving of the middle‑school driveway had begun and should be wrapped up by Monday, and that asbestos abatement at the high school had been completed July 30 with reports filed with the Department of Labor Standards. "The repaving of the driveway has begun at the middle school," he said.

The LED lighting upgrade is underway in phase 1 at the high school and the long‑jump pit sand was replaced; two 10x20 storage sheds for athletics equipment were scheduled for delivery.

On playgrounds, a CPAC representative asked the committee to obtain quotes for a poured‑in‑place rubber surface versus the approved wood‑fiber chips. Committee members discussed ADA compliance (the wood chips were verified as ADA compliant) and noted that choosing poured rubber would likely increase cost and could require town capital approval. DeFalco said the committee could gather quotes and present options when final numbers are available.

The facilities report included several site‑specific recommendations (playground consolidation at JFK to make maintenance easier, second quotes for Millville, and sidewalk repairs near the JFK complex), and the committee agreed to seek further cost estimates before deciding.
