Two students said their civics project surveyed peers and found majority support for more outdoor seating and additional flexible seating inside classrooms. The students asked the committee for permission to accept donations through an Amazon wish list and to present a site plan and specification of desired furnishings at the June 8 meeting.
Committee member Dan Keith moved to place the students’ presentation on the June 8 agenda; Ted Noble seconded and the motion passed. Committee members asked the students to bring a plot plan and cost estimates and to clarify whether requested items would be permanent outdoor fixtures or movable classroom options. Administrators said the district supports the students’ proposal in principle and suggested the students consult building principals while preparing their presentation.
Why it matters: Students proposed a low‑cost, community‑driven way to expand outdoor learning spaces and increase classroom flexibility while the district proceeds with long‑range building planning.
Next steps: Students will return on June 8 with a wish list, site/specifications and estimated costs for committee review.
