Committee recognizes student leaders, unanimously accepts two Knights of Columbus $500 scholarships

The Blackstone‑Millville School Committee used its Jan. 12 meeting to recognize student leaders from across the district and to accept two $500 scholarships donated by the Knights of Columbus.

Superintendent Jason DeFalco said the recognition series highlights ambassadors, National Junior Honor Society members, student council representatives and the 'Charges for Change' social‑justice groups at various grade levels. Students described ongoing service efforts: one middle‑school student said, "I'm doing a permanent product drive," and student council representatives outlined plans for community‑building events.

Scholarship vote: the committee considered a request to accept two $500 scholarships awarded in memory of James Lahren. A motion to accept the scholarships was made, seconded and the committee voted to approve the donation. Committee members expressed appreciation for the Warren family and Knights of Columbus' support.
