Selectmen accept grandfather-clock donation from Dr. Oscar Burns estate with donor notification requested

The Milford Board of Selectmen accepted a donated grandfather clock from the estate of Dr. Oscar Burns during its consent-calendar review.

Selectman Paul Darje moved that the town accept the clock (appraised at $2,000) with the stipulation that the donor or donor’s estate be notified the town may not keep the clock permanently and that donation placement could be reconsidered (for example, loaned or given to the historical society or library). The motion was seconded by Selectman Dave Friel and carried on a voice vote.

Selectmen discussed that acceptance does not obligate the town to display the clock permanently and that staff will confirm donor expectations and follow counsel advice if needed. The item was removed from the consent calendar for brief discussion and then approved.
