Representative Gaines delivers retirement remarks, cites mentorship and initiatives

Representative Gaines delivered retirement remarks on the House floor, reflecting on 16 years in office and thanking colleagues and mentors for their support.

Gaines said she felt called to serve and noted several initiatives she helped create, including the Jordan Scholars program and efforts associated with the Black Legislative Caucus. She thanked colleagues who mentored her early in her career, naming Representative Beth Wessel-Kreschel and former Representative Veil Abdul Samad as influences, and singled out Representative Meyer for his support and friendship. "Everything comes to those who wait," Gaines told the chamber in opening her remarks.
