Leslie Grundon, assistant director of planning, and Maggie McConnell from the Town of Federalsburg presented a workshop request to change the county water and sewer plan timing for 308 Old Denton Road from S‑3 to S‑1 so the property owner can connect to the town system and complete renovations.
Grundon said the property sits adjacent to the municipal boundary and that the town’s system has capacity. The county health department determined the existing septic system cannot support the proposed interior renovations (extra bedroom and laundry), so connection is the only feasible option. The planning commission reviewed the matter on March 11 and unanimously recommended forwarding it to the commissioners for a public hearing.
Commissioners expressed general support and asked staff to work with Jen to schedule the public hearing. The item will return to the board at that public hearing for final action.
Why it matters: Changing the timing category from S‑3 to S‑1 gives an immediate priority to the property for connection, enabling a homeowner renovation that otherwise would be restricted by on‑site septic limitations. The board did not take a final vote at the workshop; a public hearing is the next procedural step.
