MDD amends and adopts March 10 minutes to add FY2027 review of Argyle Business Association funding

During the consent agenda the board considered approval of the March 10 meeting minutes and debated whether the record accurately reflected prior instruction on funding for the Argyle Business Association (ABA).

A board member raised that the agreement presented covered both fiscal years 2026 and 2027 but the board had only explicitly approved 2026 funding. "The agreement presented to us was for '26 and '27 fiscal years, but we only talked about approving '26 fiscal year," the member said.

Staff explained the board had instructed approval of FY2026 funding and that continuation into FY2027 would require the board to appropriate funds through the usual budget process; if the board chose not to budget for FY2027, staff would send a termination notice to the ABA. Chair proposed adding language to the minutes to state the matter will "be reviewed at the beginning of the 2027 budget process." The amendment was seconded and adopted by voice vote. The minutes as amended were then approved by voice vote with the board saying "aye."

What this means: the board recorded an explicit expectation that FY2027 funding for the Argyle Business Association will be reviewed during next year’s budget process; any decision to fund FY2027 will still require the formal appropriations action in that budget. The board did not take additional funding action at this meeting.
