Sen. Adam Gomez named co-chair of Ellen Story Commission on Postpartum Depression

Representative Brandy Fluger Reid, co-chair of the Ellen Story Commission on Postpartum Depression, opened Wednesday’s meeting by announcing a leadership change on the senate side and thanking Senator Liz Miranda for her service.

Senator Liz Miranda, the outgoing senate co-chair, said she would step back from co-chair duties because of multiple leadership commitments and personal reasons while seeking to remain on the commission. Miranda highlighted the commission’s role in shaping a recently enacted maternal health omnibus law and urged continued attention to implementation.

Senator Adam Gomez accepted the senate co-chair role, saying he was “honored to stand before you today” and that he would approach the work with humility and a commitment to listen to advocates and clinicians. Gomez described his ties to Springfield and his priorities around equity and access for birthing people.

The chairs framed the transition as part of broader efforts to sustain momentum on implementation work and statewide representation. Reid asked commissioners to help identify nominees to fill open seats and to broaden the commission’s regional diversity beyond Greater Boston.

The meeting concluded with administrative actions including a motion to create a biweekly information digest for commissioners and routine adjournment. Staff said they would circulate meeting links and action items to the commission after the session.
