Pomona Unified board unanimously adopts resolution to start equity-impact review for school consolidations

The Pomona Unified Board of Education on March 21 adopted Resolution No. 23 to begin an equity-impact analysis process for potential school consolidations, voting 5–0.

Superintendent Mr. Knowles told the board the resolution aligns with Assembly Bill 1912 and would authorize a committee to develop criteria to evaluate school consolidations. He said the committee would consider student demographics, programs and critical services, transportation impacts, community input, and environmental or geographic factors when assessing consolidation proposals.

"We're asking the board to adopt the resolution and pass it so that we can move forward as we develop this equity impact analysis," Knowles said on the dais.

Board member Jimenez moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded by Board member Tai. The board took an oral roll-call vote recorded by Miss Roxas and announced the motion passed unanimously.

The resolution does not itself close or consolidate any school; it directs staff to proceed with the committee and analysis, which the board said will return to a future meeting for further consideration and public input.

Next steps recorded in the meeting: staff will convene the committee and develop the analysis criteria described by the superintendent, with subsequent public meetings anticipated as the work progresses.
