Committee advances broad slate of resolutions and proclamations; several items pass on chair’s recommendations

Among the items the committee approved: HCR19/HR20 (designating March as Water Month), HCR63/HR57 (requesting DLNR and DOT clarify jurisdiction for Honopu Bridge), HCR85/HR77 (urging DLNR to transfer parcels supporting the East Kapolei TOD project), HCR104/HR96 (advancing North Shore coastal trails), HCR106/HR98 (endorsing Waikiki as a world surfing reserve), HCR141/HR133 (urging enforcement of Maui county fire-code provisions), HCR98/HR90 (countywide housing pattern book), and HCR165/HR155 (install permanent pickleball nets and lighting at Kamilohiki Community Park). The committee adopted technical amendments where noted and recorded the excused absence of member Woodson on multiple items.

HCR140/HR132 (West Maui vegetation management) passed on the chair’s recommendation but members recorded reservations about HHFDC’s concerns regarding funding and staffing. HCR82/HR74 (shelter standards) passed with committee amendments to require upgrades to Hawaii code or HUD code if temporary units become permanent and to include the State Council on Developmental Disabilities’ accessibility concerns in the committee report. Testimony in favor, in opposition, and member questions were part of both exchanges.
