Cedar Fort cemetery committee advances mapping, aims to meet June grant deadline

The Town of Cedar Fort Cemetery Committee met April 6 to review progress on a grant-funded cemetery-mapping project and related record corrections. Committee members said the work aims to finish key milestones in time to meet a June grant deadline.

The project update described coordination with an outside mapping company to create a detailed map of blocks, plots and burial locations and extensive effort to correct cemetery records and plot data. Committee members reported using FamilySearch to gather birth and death information and noted difficulty obtaining complete historical records; they also emphasized the need to track volunteer hours to meet grant match requirements.

Members discussed creating a display board or visitor-facing map so people can locate gravesites and considered adding recognition for veterans near the gazebo. Some project elements were targeted for completion by Memorial Day.
