During the Committee of the Whole, a range of community concerns surfaced during the public comment period, from homelessness and recreation-center closures to senior services and snow-clearing.

James Chandler and other callers urged greater shelter access for men in cold weather and said petitions on human-rights and quality-of-life topics would be submitted to council offices.
Betty A., president of the DeSoto Ellsworth Block Association, described the myMI Choice Waiver through the Detroit Area Agency on Aging and explained that the program provides in-home services and can make some residents eligible for Medicaid; she gave the agency phone number on the record for those seeking help. Galaxy Tab a and other callers reported uncleared sidewalks near Lasky and urged residents to log concerns through the City of Detroit app when appropriate.
Marjorie Maddox Scarlett urged the council to follow ADA guidelines and to ensure closed captioning is available on council meeting recordings so online viewers and people with disabilities can access proceedings.
Speakers framed these concerns as practical, service-level problems and urged the council and city departments to address accessibility, warmth and basic-safety services during the winter months.
