The Washington State House adopted a resolution honoring Representative Steve Thuringer and heard multiple tributes from colleagues who cited his decades of service and work on capital and health policy.
Representative Stonier (49th District) opened remarks by praising Thuringer’s "care and passion" for capital projects and rural hospitals, saying Thuringer drove miles across his district to stay informed. "The work is one thing. Right? That's the what. But the people of this place are the how," Stonier said in a floor speech remembering both Thuringer’s policy focus and his collegial presence.
Representative Steele (12th District) called Thuringer a "statesman," highlighting his experience as capital budget chair and his role helping members negotiate difficult budget decisions. Representative Fitzgibbon (34th District) recalled shared time as freshmen and noted Thuringer’s impact on parks and trail projects such as the Olympic Discovery Trail.
After remarks from multiple members and the presiding officer, the House called for adoption of the resolution. The chair put the question and members responded in the affirmative; the speaker announced that "the ayes have it," officially adopting the resolution honoring Representative Thuringer.
The resolution notes Thuringer’s election to the House in 2010 and his background in political science and small business. The adoption concludes with congratulations and an invitation for Representative Graham to join the speaker at the rostrum for later recognitions.
The House moved on after the adoption to other business on the final day of the session.
