The Calhoun County Commission on March 12 approved several public-nuisance actions presented by Environmental Programs Manager Kraig Mize.
Mize recommended proceeding with a public nuisance abatement for 1229 Rhodes Street in Anniston (owner Harvel Phillip Brown); the commission adopted the resolution after Commissioner Wilson moved to approve and Commissioner Shears seconded. Mize also recommended dismissal of nuisance designations for three properties—1710 Dewey Drive, Oxford (owners Daniel Keith McWilliams & Wayne David c/o Glennie McWilliams); 5328 Glade Road, Anniston (owner Manuel Ferrera); and 185 Turley Drive, Anniston (owner Benetta Downer). Commissioner Shears moved to adopt the dismissals and Commissioner Howell seconded; the dismissals carried unanimously.
Mize presented two nuisance-related invoices—$6,130 for 2503 Griffis Street 2, Anniston (owners Billy & Glenday Hayes) and $1,130 for 998 Mary Jane Drive, Anniston (owner Jerel Greathouse). Commissioner Henderson moved to approve the invoices and Commissioner Howell seconded; the commission approved both payments by voice vote.
Finally, Mize recommended declaring five additional properties as public nuisances: 1225 Iron City Road (Anniston), 323 Chickasaw Drive (Anniston), 1640 Dripping Rock Road (Piedmont), 23596 AL Hwy 9 (Piedmont), and 3409 Greenwood Drive (Anniston).
