The Finance & Administration Committee unanimously recommended approving a letter of intent that would place a permanent skate park on borough land in Narberth Park with funding led by Lower Merion Township.
Chair Jim Spear opened discussion, and staff explained the item is a first procedural step to formalize a partnership. Doug (Treasurer) said Lower Merion has expressed interest and earmarked funds while the borough would provide the land. Staff will work with the borough solicitor to clarify language on maintenance and insurance before the business meeting.
The committee heard that the temporary installation has been well received and that the master parks plan already envisioned a permanent skate park for that area. Staff outlined next steps: a meeting with Lower Merion Township, formation of a staff steering committee, a public‑engagement process including a public steering committee, and an RFP for design and construction. Staff also said grant writing will be pursued to fund construction.
Members said size and final design have not been finalized and emphasized the need to protect long‑term park uses and balance community preferences. The committee approved the recommendation by voice vote (3–0).
The next steps are solicitor revisions to the draft letter of intent and subsequent consideration at the borough business meeting, plus outreach on the public engagement schedule.
