Commissioners approve updated IT director job description and one-month overlap pay for IT director

Commissioner (S3) summarized proposed updates to the Kootenai County IT director job description on April 2, adding explicit responsibility for county-owned electronics that plug into a wall. The board moved, seconded and approved the updated job description by voice vote.

The board also considered an overlap-pay request for IT positions to ensure continuity during transitions. The request included a budget-neutral one-month overlap for the incoming IT director (approximately May 1–June 1) and recommended additional planning for overlap in the application-system manager role later in the summer. James Martin, IT staff, said two months would be preferable for knowledge transfer but acknowledged cost considerations.

The board approved the overlap pay request for the IT director position and asked staff to return with a projection if additional overlap is needed for the application-system manager. The approval was recorded by voice vote.

What’s next: IT will recruit and plan transition timelines; staff will present any additional overlap-cost projections at the next HR meeting if needed.
