At its March 25 meeting the Northampton City Finance Committee voted to send several capital and borrowing orders to the full City Council with positive recommendations.
The committee approved a positive recommendation for Order 26.025, an appropriation of $1,350,000 from capital stabilization to various capital projects. The committee also recommended approval of borrowing authorizations for infrastructure work: $1.8 million for City Hall roof replacement and exterior repairs (Order 26.026) and $1.0 million for sidewalk engineering and reconstruction (Order 26.027). A $1.5 million borrowing for road reconstruction likewise received a positive committee recommendation.
Fleet and facilities items also advanced. The committee recommended borrowing $700,000 for DPW vehicles (Order 26.029) after staff explained procurement and delivery timing, and approved a $450,000 reprogramming to replace a failed boiler at the Academy of Music, noting urgency to avoid winter heating risk.
Roll-call votes on these orders were unanimous among the committee members present. Committee members cited routine infrastructure needs, the condition of City Hall’s roof and the failed boiler at the Academy of Music as reasons to move the items forward. The items will appear on the next full Council agenda for final action.
