Council recommends $1.74 million award for 100th and 65th Street improvements

The Hammond City safety meeting on an April agenda heard a recommendation to award the 100th and 65th Street improvement contract to Reith Riley Construction Company for $1,744,896.40.

Engineering staff told the board that Reith Riley was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the Kennedy Avenue–Grand Avenue stretch and that the project is tied to a Community Crossings matching grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation. Staff said the legislature approved additional funds after the bid opening, enabling the city to accept the award and execute agreements once funding allocations are finalized.

Committee member (speaker 3) recommended approval and the Chair concurred. Staff emphasized that the city will return with the formal agreements and the allocation details for the Capital Improvement Board the following week prior to final execution.

The recommendation follows the standard low-bid evaluation; staff said vendor questions about base bids and alternates were resolved during the bid review and that Reith Riley remained the low apparent responsive bidder.
