Board approves several policy updates, refers others back to committee

The board reviewed multiple policy updates covering board responsibilities (BBAA), district‑officer resignation (BBCC), board officers (BDB), and meeting‑minutes procedures (BEDG). Trustees raised questions about how vacancies are filled under state law and whether the superintendent may designate an acting officer; they also queried the logistics and workload of reviewing sealed minutes under recent legislation.

S1 moved to approve a package of policy changes that included BBAA, BBCC, BDB and BEDG; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Several policies that would change operational practice—particularly KF (use of school buildings and facilities) and the fee‑waiver language—were returned to the policy committee for additional legal/executive review and rewording, with staff asked to consult RSAs and the school‑board association.

Board members emphasized they wanted the board to retain oversight in matters involving governmental use of facilities (elections or other governmental events) and recommended clearer language about when the superintendent or a principal may exercise waiver discretion.
