The Senate Finance Committee on April 4 placed the nomination of Greg Deemo to the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission on the consent calendar after brief remarks and a favorable committee recommendation. Kristen Gregg, deputy director of the Colorado Division of Gaming, introduced Deemo and described his three decades of law‑enforcement experience and training.
"Mr. Deemo has over 30 years of experience related to being a law enforcement official," Gregg said, and noted he currently serves as undersheriff of the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office. Deemo told the committee his background includes military police service and Colorado POST certification and that he has been appointed to statewide commissions related to corrections and jail standards.
Deemo said one of his priorities would be to work with the Division of Gaming to protect people struggling with gambling addiction. "In my career, I've seen the effects of persons with gambling addiction," he said, adding he would work to uphold the ability of individuals to exclude themselves from casinos and to coordinate with courts and the Division of Gaming on enforcement and support.
Vice Chair Kolker moved the committee’s favorable recommendation, and senators present voted to advance the nomination to the Senate consent calendar. The committee recorded no formal objections and congratulated Deemo on his impending confirmation.
The committee’s action does not yet complete the Senate’s confirmation process; the nomination will appear on the consent calendar for full Senate consideration.
