The West Islip Union Free School District finance committee reported March 10 that it reviewed January financial statements, payroll and internal audit items and recommended a capital reserve proposition for the May ballot not to exceed $1,880,000 to fund three projects: magnetic door holders for all classrooms at West Islip High School, electronic locks and card-access readers for classrooms and bathrooms at Beech Street and Deauville Road Middle Schools, and completion of elementary school fire-alarm replacements.
Finance committee member Mrs. Marks told the board the proposition will appear on the May ballot and described the projects as a package under the district’s capital reserve plan. The committee also presented and accepted treasury reports, payroll summaries and recommended approval of bid extensions and surplus equipment; those business items were approved by the full board.
Mrs. Marks also announced the finance committee will consider capital reserve plan details and project prioritization at an upcoming meeting; the committee adjourned with a recommendation that the board place the proposition before voters in May.
The board approved the committee’s recommendations and routine fiscal items by voice vote. The public record did not include detailed cost breakdowns per project beyond the $1.88 million aggregate figure.
