Rankin County board approves grant, contract amendment, equipment sale and $2,000 settlement; moves into executive session

At its April 7 meeting the Rankin County board approved several routine but substantive items:

- The board accepted a DEQ solid‑waste grant in the amount of $31,330 and authorized the president to execute grant documents.

- The board authorized the president to execute Amendment 7 to the Global TelLink Corporation agreement for jail phone services; staff said the amendment would not obligate the county beyond its current commitments.

- The board accepted a sealed bid of $500,100 from Puckett Machinery (Caterpillar) for a milling machine the county had declared surplus and voted to proceed with the disposition.

- The board authorized issuance of a $2,000 payment to resolve a disputed claim for property damage alleged to have occurred during a drug‑enforcement operation, subject to releases and appropriate documentation.

After approving these items, the board voted to go into executive session to discuss pending litigation and the potential acquisition of county property.

All motions were made and seconded on the record and each motion carried as announced by the chair.
