Council introduces clarifying amendment to Airbus project agreement; councilmember notes payments could apply to alternate site

The Mobile City Council introduced an item (01287) to authorize a clarifying amendment to the Airbus Americas project agreement that, according to council discussion, would permit funds otherwise tied to the third final assembly line to be used at a different site.

“ This is modifying the project agreement to allow the money that we validated to this endeavor of the third final assembly line to expand to this new site,” Councilmember Roemer said, describing the change as a mechanical update to where previously‑allocated payments could be applied.

Roemer also described the city’s payment obligations over the coming decade, saying, verbatim, that “our payments over the next 10 years, half $1,000,000 to go to, Airbus for the next 10 years, that money can also be used on this other site as well.” The council discussion did not include a detailed budget schedule or a formal vote during the pre‑meeting; Roemer said he supported the amendment but wanted the record to reflect how the funds could be applied.

The item was introduced for council consideration and will appear on the regular meeting agenda where council may debate, amend or vote on the clarifying language.
