Carlsbad library staff on May 22 previewed the Summer Reading Adventure 2024, a nine-week program running June 10 through Aug. 10 aimed at engaging patrons of all ages in reading, technology and live programming.
"Hi, I'm Kylie Seal and this is my colleague Jennifer Benson," said Kylie Seal, co-chair for the program. Staff described the theme "Read, Renew, Repeat," which connects reading and sustainability, and outlined program mechanics: Beanstack will track reading time; every 20 minutes logged earns an entry into weekly raffles for four age groups; there will be nine weeks of programming with a weekly raffle for each age group.
Staff detailed partnerships and features: Friends of the Carlsbad Library will sponsor rewards and author appearances; a new sponsor, Dave & Buster's, will provide $10 play cards; story walks will be placed in city parks in cooperation with Carlsbad Parks and Recreation; the Exploration Hub will host theme-linked programming. The program includes weekend and early-evening special events, bilingual performances and community favorites such as animal presentations and family-friendly performances.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about the Wild Wonders animal presentations and event timing; staff confirmed animals will be provided by Wild Wonders rescue and some events will be weekend or evening offerings. Staff encouraged trustees to help promote events and said more detailed schedules will be posted online.
