Milford council discusses using 40 acres south of golf course for housing; no decision

City staff told the Milford City Council that developers have asked whether the city would partner to use a 40‑acre parcel south of the golf course for housing. Staff said the property currently houses the temporary RV park and that, after proposed uses (arena relocation, cemetery or housing), roughly 20 acres could remain for other city needs.

Councilors discussed priorities and trade‑offs. Several members said housing should be a high priority to support local businesses and schools, while others urged preserving recreation and ensuring adequate parking and access if the horse arena is moved. One councilor noted the city has not previously partnered on housing projects and asked staff to report back with examples and grant‑partnership options, including how other cities structured contributions like in‑kind labor, sewer or water work.

Staff plans to present more detailed options at upcoming county/state housing meetings in April and to return to the council with more information; no binding decision or land donation was made at the meeting.
