Council approves small-community expenditures: livestock show, Mule Day, flowers and banners

Bryce Canyon City’s council approved a package of small community expenditures and directed staff to coordinate promotional materials for a forthcoming American 250 celebration.

The council approved a $500 donation for the county livestock show (full-page ad) and a $100 annual sponsorship for Fresh Canyon Mule Day after staff explained the requests. Staff also sought approval to replace damaged plastic flower pots at the corner with more durable barrel-style planters (vendor prices discussed in the $89–$99 range) and to purchase required floral stock; council approved the purchase of flowers and barrels and asked staff to return quotes when available.

On promotion, staff said the travel council will design and print banners, cover design and printing costs and pay half of pole costs; staff discussed banner sizes (23-by-72 inches, double-sided) and recommended city-specific designs. The council directed staff to coordinate with the travel council and to provide pole counts and preferred artwork for the celebration and the July symphony event.

Outcome and next steps: staff will obtain vendor quotes for barrels and flowers, coordinate banner artwork and pole requirements with the travel council, and report costs back to the council for record-keeping.
