Township adopts budget workshop calendar with option B dates

Kellen Good News Shaw presented two calendar options for 2027 budget workshops and related 2026 tax‑rate work. The board discussed timing and deadlines for certifying property values and for any voter‑approval rate options.

Option B—presented to the board as "August 17 through the 20 first"—was described by staff as the usual choice and was recommended when the board does not anticipate setting a tax rate that would require voter approval. Staff also noted that the Secretary of State deadline relevant to the process falls on Aug. 17.

Directors asked about flexibility; staff said the calendar could be adjusted in case of emergency and that the board could change dates up until early August if needed. Director Heizer moved to adopt option B for the 2027 budget calendar, and Director Schoell Gibbs seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.

The adoption sets internal planning dates for budget workshops, ensures staff will have certified property values and voter‑approval rates available during the meetings and establishes the timeline staff will follow in preparing budget materials for board review.
