Commission moves annexation of Oaks Preserve parcels forward after staff review of services

On April 2 the Gainesville City Commission approved on first reading an ordinance to annex approximately 26.65–26.897 acres south of Archer Road (petitioned by Dogwood Acquisition LLC and GSNM LLC). Planner Ari Urbanovich described the parcels as contiguous, reasonably compact and consistent with state statutes for voluntary annexation and presented an urban‑services report showing electric, water, wastewater, gas (GRU), RTS Route 75 transit service and police/fire coverage expectations.

Applicant representative Tara Howell introduced herself and said she was available to answer questions. Commissioners asked about whether county development rules would require road connections and whether future development would tie into existing city stubs. Interim COO Bridal Singleton and staff explained county and city land‑development requirements and confirmed coordination on stub connections; staff noted a stub for future connection appears in the Oaks Preserve plat.

Commissioner Chestnut moved the annexation ordinance on consent and the commission voted unanimously to advance the ordinance with a target second reading and effective date of April 16 if adopted. Staff said second reading would bring the annexation into effect after required notices.

What happens next: second reading is scheduled for April 16 (if adopted then, the annexation would become effective on the specified effective date). The urban‑services report will guide service extension and any future subdivision or development will be required to meet city standards.
