Plantation council approves expanded online bill-pay platform with Paymentus

The City of Plantation on March 25 approved an amendment to its Master Services Agreement with Paymentus Corporation to expand online utility-billing services, city staff said.

Danny Polio, the city's utilities director, told the council the platform will provide a 24/7 resident portal, e-billing, text and email notifications, and higher single-payment limits to cover large accounts. "This platform is gonna do everything that you're saying," Polio said, and staff described an expected implementation window of roughly four to six months.

Council members voiced cautious support while noting Plantation is planning a later enterprise-resource-planning (ERP) migration. One member pressed whether the expansion was only a short-term contract; staff said the ERP integration could be several years out and the Paymentus services would remain until Sprypoint (the future platform) is implemented. "I'm hesitant, but I'm going to go ahead and approve today and make the motion to approve," a council member said before the vote.

The council approved the amendment by roll call. Supporters said the change should reduce delinquencies, lower call volume, and consolidate vendors, while one member asked for follow-up reporting on user adoption and the transition plan to the city's future ERP.

The vote: council motion carried with recorded yes votes from members present.

Next steps: staff will begin implementation and return updates to the council as the new payment features are rolled out.
