RSU 73 board approves minutes, grants robotics travel and advances two policy first readings

At its regular meeting, the RSU 73 School Board approved routine business and advanced several items with little contention. The chair called for approval of the March 12, 2026 minutes; the motion carried with two abstentions recorded.

The Spruce Mountain robotics team asked for permission to attend the University of Vermont district event in April 2026 and, if qualified, the New England District Championships in Springfield, Mass. The board approved the out‑of‑state travel request after the team reviewed its recent awards and outreach work.

On policy business, the board advanced first readings for two policies. The first reading of policy BBA (board powers and responsibilities) incorporates references to Maine Department of Education regulations and the Maine School Board Association handbook (section 2); the motion was seconded and carried. The board also approved a first reading of policy EBBd to codify state temperature standards for schools; discussion noted an average minimum/maximum range (66°F to 84°F) and retained a working target of 70°F with mitigation options for classrooms that run warmer or colder.

The chair confirmed a referendum meeting next Thursday, the regular board meeting on April 9, and the validation vote connected to the April 28 referendum date.
