County students honored: swim team, Beta Club, girls wrestling and CTE winners recognized

The board paused for recognitions early in the work session. Jefferson Middle School staff (S4) noted that the countywide middle-school swim team is hosted at Jefferson Middle and introduced Coach Josh (S5), who said the team has not lost a dual or tri meet since forming. Beta Club sponsors (S6) reported eight state awards at the Nashville convention and named student Riley Hill as first-place jewelry-design winner; several club winners qualified for nationals in June.

Coaches and staff highlighted growth in the girls wrestling program from two participants four years ago to 16 this year, mentioning Gabby Newton as a four-time state medalist and noting she won her 100th match this season. Career and technical programs were represented by multiple first-place finishes: telecommunications cabling (Marley Gordon), internet working (Robbie Carlton), medical assisting (Peyton Howard), practical nursing (Lotus Platt), and cybersecurity (Sean Canfield and Finley Lewis) with several sophomores placing ahead of college competitors.

Board members praised the students and coaches and welcomed families and guests to stay for the business session or depart after recognitions.
