Commissioners approve not-to-exceed $5,000 for landscaping upgrades at County Administration Building

Willacy County Commissioners on March 26 authorized in-house landscaping upgrades for the County Administration Building, approving a not-to-exceed $5,000 start amount drawn from capital funds.

Commissioners discussed sprucing up planting beds, adding low-water plantings under shade trees for staff break areas, and addressing steep steps and handrail needs. One commissioner suggested precinct crews could complete most of the work in a short time, with sample plantings to be presented for approval.

The motion before the court directed staff to begin work in-house and to use capital funds up to a $5,000 limit as a starting allocation; the court moved and seconded the item and approved the not-to-exceed amount.

Next steps: commissioners will bring sample plantings and design ideas; staff will monitor capital-fund availability and report back with final costs as the work is carried out.
