Historic preservation commission receives CLG annual report, approves receipt with minor edits

The Monterey Historic Preservation Commission voted to receive its Certified Local Government annual report covering Oct. 2024 through Sept. 2025 after staff described accomplishments and recommended minor corrections.

"My name is Fernanda Rovere, principal planner for the city of Monterey, and I will present to you the CLG annual report for reporting years October 2024 to September 2025," Fernanda Rovere told the commission. She summarized program requirements and highlighted local accomplishments: the commission is fully staffed with five qualified professionals among seven members; the commission recommended historic zoning for 817 Martin Street and reviewed three historic permits including work at 1078 West Franklin and a second-story deck proposal for the Helham House at 581 Scott Street. Rovere also said the commission logged about 80 hours of preservation training during the reporting period.

Commissioners suggested a small edit to membership listings (one commissioner asked that an attorney/historian designation be added to the packet). Commissioner O'Neil moved to accept the report with the suggested changes and a commissioner identified in the record as Colin Menardino seconded the motion. The chair called for a voice vote; commissioners responded "Aye," and the motion carried. No roll-call tally was recorded on the transcript.

Staff asked for any additional corrections; none were raised. The commission recorded the receipt of the CLG report for submission to the State Historic Preservation Office.
