Director Long delivered the monthly operations report covering capital work, programs and staffing needs across Alameda parks.
Long said Estuary Park construction is ongoing with an expected 2026 completion and that work on Sweeney Trail connectors has begun, with north-side construction first. She highlighted program registration currently open for swim lessons, spring break camps (April 13–17) at Harrison and other sites, home-school PE and after-school pickleball at Alameda Point Gym, and a career-prep job fair on March 26 at the Alameda Boys and Girls Club. "This is a great opportunity where the seniors and the teens get together and learn how the iPhone works," Long said of the Teens Teaching Tech sessions.
The director described volunteer opportunities, including Operation Green Sweep (June 22–July 24), and the junior leader program running July 6–30 for teens to develop leadership skills. Staff are actively recruiting part-time summer employees and a full-time gardener position, with the gardener application deadline set for March 29 and job postings available on the city website.
On maintenance and safety, Long reported ADA improvements and Little League-related adjustments at Littlejohn Park, an emergency tree removal at Lincoln Park in February to protect a playground, a tree-planting partnership at Lidecker Park, and an irrigation upgrade at Gene Sweeney Open Space Park to a smart clock for better water usage.
The commission had no substantive questions and thanked staff for the report.
