The Tyler City Council voted to adopt "Tyler Tomorrow," a consolidated comprehensive and area development plan that city staff said will guide growth and investment through 2045.
Planning Director Kyle Kingman told council the plan combines the comprehensive plan with area development plans for Midtown, UT Tyler and the North End into a single framework intended to align future land-use decisions, infrastructure planning and capital improvements. Assistant City Manager Heather Nick outlined next steps, including potential amendments to the Unified Development Code (UDC), incorporation of area-plan recommendations into the CIP, and further implementation actions.
Councilmembers praised the 18-month public engagement process and the steering committees and consultants who participated. Council approved both R1 and R2 by voice vote; staff announced a post-meeting photo opportunity and community reception.
Nick said the plan is both "aspirational and practical," reflecting community input and setting priorities for future investments; council members noted the plan gives staff and residents clarity about what to expect as projects come forward.
