The Ogden School District board voted to add a third turf soccer field on the district campus and to replace the district’s Field 2 turf, approving a plan that pairs district work with a statewide soccer association’s funding.
Facilities staff presented a draft agreement with the Utah Youth Soccer Association, which proposed underwriting roughly $1,700,000 to build a full-size 11v11 field with 9v9 layouts on each half, lighting and related site work. The district will simultaneously replace Field 2 turf and manage the campus layout so fields share consistent warranties and maintenance cycles.
Facilities staff said the UYSA asked that the association be able to block the field for its spring and fall seasons (about 13 weeks each) and schedule games during evening hours. “They said, around 1,700,000.0,” the presenter told the board while summarizing the association’s offer and the three-field concept.
Board member Zondo moved to approve construction of Field 3 and to replace Field 2 turf for an amount not to exceed $950,000; board member Nunley seconded the motion. The board approved the motion by voice vote.
The presentation noted the turf plan would use the same design and vendor as recent field projects, provide a 12‑year turf warranty (25‑year warranty on the pad), and free up usage on Fields 1 and 2 by shifting some club scheduling to the new field. Board members asked about access for local and lower-income teams; staff said the approved arrangement makes the new field the local clubs’ home field and would therefore be available to Ogden-area teams, but there is no contract line guaranteeing community-complimentary slots beyond the shared-schedule approach.
Next steps include finalizing the agreement with the association, completing site drawings and construction procurement under the district’s capital plan. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes; the motion passed on a board voice vote.
