The Caroline County Burial Sites Preservation Board voted unanimously to recommend that the county commissioners approve providing a link to the Coalition for Preservation Maryland's Burial Site Stewardship guide, with members saying an external link avoids maintenance burdens for county staff.
Board members argued the Maryland-focused guide is the most applicable resource available for local burial-site stewardship. "I think that's probably what the recommendation should be," a board member said when moving the motion to recommend the guide as a resource. Another member urged linking to the Coalition's site rather than hosting the guide on the county website, saying, "If it gets changed, we don't have to update anything. It's all on them."
Legal counsel present at the meeting said the board should decide which guidelines it preferred before asking the commissioners to place the item on the commissioners' agenda. The counsel noted that when the board previously presented technical materials to the commissioners, the commissioners reviewed them in detail and could raise specific questions.
The board agreed to prepare materials and to seek a commissioners' blessing to have the link posted on the boards' section of the county website. The motion was seconded and the chair declared the vote unanimous.
