Caroline County's Burial Sites Preservation Board reviewed a new burial-sites map the board said was prepared by county GIS planner Nathan Stevens. The map uses blue-dot markers that link to SDAT parcel information; presenters showed how clicking a marker reveals parcel data and said the board can add common cemetery names to the pop-up content.
"If you click on the blue dots, you can get the SDAT information for the property," the board administrator demonstrated. Members urged adding roads and common/local cemetery names to make the map more usable and discussed whether aerial imagery should be included to help locate burial features. Several members warned that the data set is incomplete and recommended a clear disclaimer that the map is for informational purposes only and does not grant rights of access to private property.
The map is not publicly available yet; the board discussed working with the county administrator and the mapper to finalize pop-up fields (parcel ID, road names, common cemetery names, and links to underlying records) and to craft disclaimer language before any public release.
