Norfolk County budget delivery delayed one week as schools finish their budget

Norfolk County officials told commissioners on March 18 that the county’s FY2027 budget schedule will shift one week later than planned while school officials finish their internal process.

"I expect to provide a countywide balanced budget proposal to you on April 1," Director Crockman said, explaining that the county must await the school system’s balanced budget presentation to its trustees on March 27 before finalizing countywide numbers.

Crockman said the timing change will give commissioners slightly less time to review and propose modifications prior to an April 15 advisory board meeting when the commission may be asked to vote on the budget and any supplemental requests.

The director asked department heads to submit supplemental and transfer requests by March 25 to meet the revised advisory timetable and noted staff would be preparing for a possible combined vote on the budget and supplemental requests the week of April 15.

No formal motion or vote was recorded on the schedule change; it was presented as an administrative update to the commission.
