Council approves annexation of South Bluff for proposed lift station

The South Beloit City Council voted Feb. 16 to approve Ordinance 2901 annexing a parcel in South Bluff, which staff said is the planned location for a proposed lift station. The chair said the land was purchased from Arlene Rounds; staff framed the annexation as a necessary step before seeking design and funding for the utility project.

City staff and council discussed the item on the floor and moved and seconded the ordinance. During roll call several commissioners indicated support and the chair announced the ordinance carried. Council members did not raise substitute motions or amendments during the consideration.

Council and staff have been coordinating lift-station planning with upcoming funding steps: staff later told the council they plan to submit nomination forms to the IDPA loan program by March to pursue funding for construction and that additional engineering and bid timelines will follow as the project advances.

The annexation clears a legal and municipal step for project development; further approvals, engineering design and external funding decisions remain before construction can begin.
