Council awards up to $12,000 for police department repairs and improvements

Council voted March 26 to award a contract not to exceed $12,000 to Moreno Solutions to repair and improve the police department building. Chief Michael Dorsey presented three bids to address water-damage remediation, cove-base replacement, selective flooring work in hallways and offices, and future security-door upgrades.

Dorsey said one bid (Moreno Solutions) included the desired metal-door security upgrade; he also noted that contractors were informed the city is tax exempt and would establish tax-exempt purchase accounts for materials where appropriate. The city previously received a property-insurance check of roughly $11,961.87 related to the earlier water incident; the chief said remaining project costs would be covered from the building maintenance and repair budget line.

Council discussed scheduling, vendor experience and start dates; Moreno estimated completion within about two weeks after mobilization. After a motion and second, council approved awarding the work to Moreno Solutions with the spending cap noted.

Funding for initial work will come from insurance proceeds with the balance from the city's maintenance budget; staff will obtain required permits and issue notices to proceed.
