Treasurer Khan presented the tax schedule maintenance report and answered commissioners questions about delinquent parcels and the tax-auction process. "So far the treasurer's office has collected $122,150,000, leaving about $10,800,000 still outstanding, which puts an overall collection rate of 91.87," he said.
Khan noted the 2025 net taxes charged are about $17,960,000 and that the treasurer's office has collected $11,600,000 to date (current-year collection rate 64.64%), which he described as normal for the stage of the collection cycle. He also explained how the Silver Consolidated School District s 2024 bond affected 2025 tax bills and reaffirmed that the treasurer's office works with the assessor and property-tax division to prepare delinquent parcels for possible auction.
Chairman Ponce and other commissioners raised concerns about parcels that appear vacant and unpaid for long periods; Khan said his office maintains a list of parcels delinquent more than 36 months and can coordinate site visits and tax-auction placement with the state property-tax division.
Why it matters: Collection rates determine near-term revenue available to the county and the treasurer's process for moving long-delinquent parcels to auction can affect county revenue and local land use.
