The Haslet City Council on March 30 approved an ordinance ratifying various amendments to the city’s fiscal 2025–26 budget and separately passed a resolution authorizing the city administrator to post the adopted budget and file it with the municipal and county clerks.
Director of Finance Marcy Lam told the council that while a proposed budget had been posted earlier, the adopted budget had not been filed with the Tarrant County clerk nor posted on the city’s website as an "adopted" document. Council members criticized that omission and cited Texas Local Government Code requirements that an approved budget be filed with the municipal clerk and posted on the municipality’s website.
Council moved to authorize the city administrator to post the adopted budget along with all pertinent amendments and to file the approved budget with the office of the municipal clerk and the Tarrant County clerk; the motion passed unanimously. The action followed extended discussion about whether the failure to file constituted a Code violation and whether it could trigger a state controller review; city staff confirmed an adopted budget ordinance (Ordinance 014‑2025) exists, but the procedural filing steps had not been completed.
Separately, council considered and approved the reconsideration/approval of an ordinance transferring funds to the city administrator position (item 4G). The meeting record shows unanimous votes for the budget ordinance, the posting/filing resolution and the ordinance funding the city administrator position.
Council requested staff provide an updated adopted‑budget binder and to follow through immediately on the filings.
