Board honors yearbook adviser, student fundraisers and state‑champion dance team

The Strongsville City Board of Education opened its March 26 meeting with a series of recognitions for staff and students.

Administrators restored the OSBA student‑achievement recognition and presented awards for staff and students. Mr. Wingler described Heather Swanson's leadership in creating a yearbook class and integrating journalism and English standards; he said the yearbook has won multiple statewide awards. Mrs. Swanson accepted the recognition and remarked that after a long career she was grateful to finish by advising the yearbook and student newspaper.

The board also honored three student leaders — Eric Dubsky, Emily Polo and Anna Placeway — and a broader team that raised $218,000 for blood‑cancer research under the Mustangs for a Cure campaign, breaking the district record. Administrators highlighted student creativity, daily fundraising efforts and strong engagement with local businesses.

Athletic director Jason Keoppler and coach Mackenzie Grimm recognized the Strongsville High School dance team's competitive season: the team qualified in all four categories, were state champions in large hip hop, state runner‑ups in small jazz, and placed in the top three across other divisions. Administrators noted the students' volunteer work, high GPAs and extracurricular involvement.

Board members invited honorees to stand for photos and thanked them for representing the district. The recognitions were presented prior to business items and recorded in the meeting minutes.
